Hello fellow lantern lovers, it's been many years since I joined this forum, just found my user name and password still work! It's been years since I last posted, I think. In the intervening years my collection has gathered dust, with just one lantern getting a very rare workout during power failure. I am now again preparing to move house and unfortunately my collection is all wrapped up and packed away. I have a couple of "rare" lanterns, Tilley 410 and Coleman Col-Max with rapid light burner) among them. I have just 2 items to show right now, both of which I wasn't very fond and was thinking about selling. Not posting because I sell, but out of courtesy to show something. This is a well-used Radius 119, which I never got going: This is a Coleman 228E which I have never lit, which is in very good shape:
That's a very nice pair. Especially the 228. Here in the states Coleman 228's are somewhat common. I have a C,D and an F model 228 and they'll blind you they're so bright. I fettled an Aladdin 1A over the weekend which is a rare find in the US (from an Ebay seller in Iowa) and i notice it shares some similarities with your Radius. Oh, and welcome back!
Welcome back, @jur. @Tom Waite The Aladdin 1A is essentially a clone of the Aladdin 119, with local (Australian) manufacturing differences. Tony
I stumbled across the forum after trying to get hold of Shellite, which to my dismay has been discontinued in the intervening years. Bugger. I see my joining date is showing as March 2013; it was a long time before that, that can't be right. I must have joined between 1995 and 2000 originally. Unless there was another forum at that time. Anyway I was far away from lanterns in 2013... But what to use instead of Shellite?? I see I can get Coleman fuel in Ferntree Gully. But it's more idle musing as I am not intending to really do anything with it. Just a pity it's gone. I'm not too keen to use plain old petrol. A large portion of my collection was gathered in South Africa before 1995. I have a couple of nice Coleman stoves too, including the 530 "pocket" stove which I converted to a silent burner which worked very well last time I used it. The conversion is not permanent, just a different top fitting.
Hi there - welcome (again)!! Shellite still widely available - eg all Bunnings have it in stock. The above lanterns are stunning - thanks for showing. Cheers Peter
Welcome back @jur Looking forward to your future posts. Shellite is plentiful here in Toowoomba, perhaps try your local Bunnings. Cheers Pete
Welcome back, Jur! I think you must mean CCS - the stove site. This one hasn't been going that long - maybe 10 years now? Edit: Just checked - it started on 1st January 2011 so our 10th birthday is coming up soon. Maybe 2013 was when we went onto CPL version 2 and all memberships were re-set...
