Hmmm do you now? I rather think CAMRA might have a different opinion on that. However it is sad but true that rather than English or continental by far the best comes out of Dublin. ::Neil::

*Edit: Beer talk split out of from the Pressure Lamp discussion forum (Lilor lamp)

Both Irish and some Belgian beers are quite enjoyable, no doubt in that!
But when it comes to the best beers, the price will undoubtedly go to the Czech Republic, very closely followed by Germany.
Actually it's hard to choose between them, so perhaps better call it a draw...

    Cheers!

Well guys, I tend to agree with Christer about the beer from the Czech Republic, especially the dark stout beer =P~ :content: you can have at the local cellar pubs in the Prague Old Town.
Looking at a well known beer evaluation site some time ago I discovered a beer from my home town Örebro/Sweden was rated in the first place. We got a high quality microbrewery here, well-known for miles around!
This thread started with a Lilor donut. How come it ended up this way  ?

I'm afraid I'm the one to blame  , but I still think we have the best selection of prime quality beers in the world! :D/

    Best regards,

Wim (who drank 2 Special Export Guinnesses this evening :content: )

Nah, this is CPL, son of CCS where threads wander about all over the place - and many serendipitous adventures are had... And as you said yourself in another thread:-

Interesting! They are not available at "Systembolaget", are they? I did a search, but didn't find them.
We have a local brewery close to here (It's in Mölndal) that make good ales. Next time you're buing beverages I think you should have a look after "Dugges". They have a nice stout, but I would also recommend Gustafs Finger, which is sort of a bitter.
That is, if you like that kind of beers...

Otherwise the Swarzbiers are my absolute favourites.
Krusovice Cerne or Köstricher to give an easy-to-find choice from each of the two best beer-countries in the world. ;)

The topic has drifted, but it is as David explained above.
And a tasty topic it has become... =P~

Sorry guys that I interrupt your discussion.

Come to my homecountry Bawaria, you can see

    (drink) what we brew here.

We talk about homebreweries from little villages,

    not about beerproducer.

That's practically what a micro brewery is Karli. like the one Conny mention and also to some extent "Dugges" I mentioned, even if they also sell outside their own location.

Karli, that’s what it is; a small local brewery started by three beer enthusiasts as a part time project (one of them a working associate of mine). Now seven years later a brewery with lots of honour awards for well made beers.

Sorry Christer, you can´t buy them in our Systembolaget, but with a bit of luck you may find this beer at a pub or restaurant in Gothenburg.
Ok guys, how can one go from here  hmmm......... ...... Beers , Birds and B.......Soccer. An interesting draw in the Euro 1012 next summer. Sweden plays France, the robust and well build Swedes (Primus etc.) against the fancy Frenchmen (Lilor etc.)

I splitted this beer talk out of the Lilor topic since it perhaps had become a bit too dominant.
Nice topic still, so keep 'em coming here instead!

Cheers Conny! Both Bishop's Arms and the Rover are pubs I often go to when we have our crawls down in Gothenburg.
With a little luck they might have your local beer in next time.
I will most certainly ask for it! Would be a shame to miss a test winner if I got the opportunity to try one, wouldn't it? ;)

I was wondering when someone would bring a little common sense to the discussion and suggest an English brew might be best. If you get away from stouts or dark beers then there is little doubt where the best comes from. You can still get real ale from wooden casks here and it don't get better. There are quite a few contenders for best but that is subjective. Good honest English draught bitter is better than anything I have tasted anywhere else in the world. ::Neil::

John, I like Adnams! It's actually one of the brands I often buy when I'm in the "English mode".

That's the beauty with beer: there are so many different kinds and tastes to explore that you never get fed up with it.
For example here in Sweden, if I go to the liqour store, I'll get more than 1200 different beers from all over the world to choose from, where appr. half of them are lagers and the other half are ales and stouts. It takes a while to go through all of those, but I'm sure it's worth the effort...
And frankly it's impossible to compare different styles with eachother. They all have one or another advantage (or disadvantage) compared to the other.

    Cheers!

Currently hailing from the heart of real ale country; South Derbyshire, I have a wealth of CAMRA's finest within a stones throw. This aside, I'm currently favouring a Shropshire brewer; namely Hobsons of Cleobury Mortimer. Their 'Twisted Spire' (Blonde) and Best Bitter really are cracking quality English beers.

Despite this, I still love a good pint of Beamish from the motherland (Republic of Cork!).

I am pretty spoilt living in Sheffield at the moment, with lots of fantastic local breweries and a equally fantastic range of proper real ale pubs!
