This might seem far fetched but it's true, my wife sent me to Tesco's this morning (other supermarkets are available) to fetch a couple of pints among other things. Whilst standing in the queue abiding by the social distancing rules I got to chat with a unknown person who was moaning about the wait saying he'd rather be at home with his tractors. That led to an opening where we got talking and I said that I'd rather be at home with my Tilley's, Oh said he my brother in law's got a couple of them, would you be interested. So we exchanged numbers and after delivering said shopping home to an expectant wife I made a call introducing myself, 15 minutes later I was in his shed (still social distancing) and have just arrived home with the pictured goodies. There's some rough stuff but also there's some gems, so maybe social distancing isn't such a bad thing after all.

If you ask me nicely enough, Pete, I'll loan you this:-
    Front.jpg

    Back.jpg

I bought it years ago via eBay. It cost £8 - £10 IIRC, which I didn't think was too much for a fleece - especially considering the endless amusement it would create at Newark. Trouble was, I never remembered to take it...:lol:

I'll try to remember to take it to the Virtual Newark this weekend - that should guarantee warm, dry weather... :p

Haven't we rather strayed off-topic here? That's not to say this discussion isn't worthwhile.

Perhaps the thread needs to be split from post #12 and this recent development posted as a thread of its own. Just sayin'...

    Thanks for your support Steve,
The 300X certainly is nice and includes the correct glass with the hole in it, unfortunately the hood has been mullered beyond repair.

David, I would wear that fleece, definitely. Apart from when I’m doing a food shop I always try to mention Tilley lamps when I’m chatting to strangers.

Well you're missing a trick there, Jean - clearly shopping queues can yield rich pickings! :D

I think my other intention was to wear it at car boot sales but I haven't been to one of those for absolutely ages either...

The Bialaddin 310 with the green fount has an early brass 2 piece hood that should go on the lamp behind it to the right with the large fuel cap.

I'm sure there are other mix-ups in there too but that's half the fun!

I count 31 lamps, is that right?

Quite a few people have commented on the early 300X that's hiding in the background, so I decided to separate it for you and dust it off a bit. Only you know what happens, you think- firstly I wonder if it holds pressure, it did with no leaks then wonder if the vaporiser is clear. That's the point when you say I'll just try, rather than waste a new mantle on the damaged hood I tried with what was left of the old one.
I know that the hood is beyond repair but I'm sure I've got another period one to replace it and the pre heater is from a later lamp - again no problem but it's nice to see it's got it's original glass with the hole in it.
With a single heat and a deep breath the old girl fired into life for the first time in goodness knows how many years
This isn't going to be a quick lockdown project as I've just heard I'm going back to work on 15th June so I'll file it for the long dark winter nights, at some point in it's life someone has given it a coat of paint which has helped preserve the tank so at least I haven't got to find another one of them. 20200527_140059.jpg 20200527_140051.jpg

It’s that not a Vapalux 300, nice to have it stamped on the filler cap.

That’s a really good project for those winter nights in Blighty. Lucky you, these are nice lanterns to have, they look good and run very well.
    Enjoy
    Cheers
