Ok guys I'm sure it was a lucky Saturday, but now it's time to bring the beauty back to life, so let's begin. As found, time to fettle, let's see what the old girl needs Not to much just some oil on the plunger, and a change of the pip, I think that's what it's called, please correct me if I am wrong thanks. This part. Okay I will put a mantle on now, and blow out the burner as to get the crap out, then I will update.
Wow love these old lamps, so easy to fettle, 20 min and all done, so before I polish and respray, I thought that I should give you guys: the money shot, well here it is, enjoy it, as this beautiful EX4 won't be lite again, well maybe? I know I love it, i hope those with lampitus are impressed as I am thanks.
@Tony Press Cool so I got a real bargain, excellent news, so it will stay in the family, now I have 2 EX4, fingers crossed i hope they come in 3's.
Hum.. Very nice indeed and also the Tilley logo on the reflector, so perhaps hopefully also original? Was that an enamel reflector at all, Brian btw?
@podbros It's seems to be, I believe it's all original, thats what the owner said it was his dad's, and hasn't been used in decades, well thats what they said, but who knows.
I think i would be tempted to just gently clean and wax as it has so much of the original patina and parts, it's a real survivor and now it's found someone who will take care of it. Your passion for Tilleys really comes through, Brian...Thanks for sharing all your smashing lanterns! p.s. that is very bright ! Please be careful with that globe good sir!
@podbros Thanks mate, my son said the same thing, I just might leave this one alone, not sure yet, also I can tell by the hood that she hasn't been used much, a very excellent find that's for sure.
You certainly know how to find them! What a really great lamp, great to see it lit and doing it’s thing.
