    It seems that my FS1 isn’t the only one in the UK after all as I’ve just seen one come up for sale. Has anyone else seen it and what’s your opinion of it?

    There is a post of another in the Gallery by Kenny Connolly?

    It was back in 2013?

    Yes but Kenny sold his and it lives in another country now. The one for sale has all its bells and whistles on but underneath all its fancy dressing I feel there is still something not quite right about it.

    Hello Jean, in the 1934 catalogue only one FS., lamp is offered and it's stand appears to be the same as your lamp stand, but in the 1939 catalogue several FS., lamps were offered and the design of the stand is different, but that design is different to the lamp stand which is shown on Ebay.

    However, we know that Tilley were always tinkering with the design of their products, so they may have offered a few styles of lamp stands.

    The link below shows the relevant pages and the height of the lamps which are offered in the 1939 catalogue is taller than the ones offered in the earlier catalogues.

    Sadly I don’t have one here to compare with but I wouldn’t touch that one on eBay with a barge pole and not just because of the price. There are multiple red flags for me looking at other items, so I’d say you still own the only real one currently known about.

    I should have added this to my previous post, that seller often lists modified lamps and like Matt and Henry I'm unsure if the lamp stand is a genuine Tilley one.

    Yes, I agree Matthew, it wasn’t just the look of the lamp but the seller’s ID. However, he does have 100% positive feedback so must have lots of happy buyers. I realise there were a few different heights and woods offered but still.............

    Is the seller a member here? Over the years he's had a prodigious output of lamps and lanterns that are, er, not to my taste at all (I hope that's suitably anodyne so as not to upset anyone - even vicariously :)).

    :-k Where does he get his lamps from? Who does he sell them to? :-s :?

    Anyway, if I had that much money to spare, I'd spend it on wine, women and song - and then I'd squander the rest (George Best)...

    Thanks Jeff for pointing me towards the 1939 catalogue, I hadn’t seen it before. So it seems that my FS1 is still the only one known of in the UK, the one on sale at the moment could be an FS2 an FS3 an FS4 or maybe even an FS57. Who knows?

    @David Shouksmith

    To be fair, the seller does say "The shade is a reproduction".
