    I started tearing down the Vapalux 300. It apparently is an early one since it has the same top as the E41. Either that or it was replaced. More to follow...O:)

    Here are! (Are we home yet?)...
    Tear down in progress. The font and cage will be repainted. The tank and cage will be sand blasted inside and out. Since the lantern is dated 1943, it has a steel font and not brass. The tank actually feels just like sandpaper! It does appear to be a solid font, no stress cracks.

    That's not an E41 hood, George - just the standard 300 one.

    Looks like you've got the makings of a nice lantern there, though. Mind the globe because they're quite brittle and not at all easy to replace - not even here... :thumbup:

    David, I'm confused... I thought the top was the E41 type. I have two other E41 lanterns with is same top. I also have another 300 and it has a more "sharp" or utilitarian looking type.
    I could be causing confusion here, I'm actually talking about the heat deflector.

    @David Shouksmith

    I'm sorry but I think I caused the confusion by referring to the heat deflector as the lantern top. That's an American for you - don't know my a$$ from a hole in the wall! lol
    David, I guard that globe but believe it or not this is just a plain globe that I got my son to drill a hole in. Worked out very well and I have another one I'm going to get him to drill for me! The lantern came to me with a green lettered Bialaddin globe. I put that one away.
