Hi all. After my first ever post I have now got the Tilley 246b re washered and running and am pleased to say it works lovely and without leaks. Just curious, if any of you fine experienced folk can advise. The light it gives off is very white compared to the orange glow of the 246a. Is this normal? Have I got something wrong. Something I need to address with the 246a? Any pointers would be very much appreciated. Hope the pictures show what I mean. Regards. Stuart.
Hi Stuart, in my opinion the " B " is correct as you want it. ie plenty of light. It's the " A " thats a bit off. try looking at the vapouriser, possibly chocked up, or the mantle is discoloured. but either way the mixture looks wrong
@Stuart Batin I am with @malcolm race your 246b is giving off the right amount of light. I'd have a look at the "A".
@Stuart Batin As stated the mixture of the A is probably richer. This can be due to the vapouriser or wear in the burner. Swap the hoods (and burners) over and fire them up again. This will help determine if the problem is the vapouriser or the burner.

Update on the unhappy ‘A’. I Gave the pricker Rod a clean as well as poking a thin bit of wire up the tube & although I had cleaned the hood I gave that another poke ‘n’ blow, the mantle didn’t seem particularly bad but I put a fresh one on anyway and now it all seems much happier and brighter.
