Recently picked up a Optimus 200. I believe it is 1970's, rather than earlier. Although the model number is engraved on the fount, rather than a plaque on the collar, which would be more similar for the age, I believe these to a be Swedish Civil defense model from other similar models in the Reference Gallery.
Very nice lamp, well done for getting it running. I have a soft spot for these lamps, they make a lovely peaceful grumble noise when you you pump them up to pressure compared to the hiss you get from a Tilley lamp. They are a bit less bulky than a Tilley but seem nearly as bright. I hope it becomes one of your favourite go-to lamps.
@James K I am with you on the gentle rumble from the lantern, it is nice. Having run it tonight, I am impressed by the amount of light, it seems bright in comparison with others, and it "presence". It packs a punch and just works. Very pleased with it, and running it tonight has already secured a place in the "go-to" lamp list.
I'm more inclined to think this one is from the 1960s, as the control wheel still has the Optimus name on it. This batch where the P is missing from the model number (there is still space for it) is presumed to have been supplied to the military. The standard civil defence model was not nickel plated. There was also another batch from the same time where the tank is stamped 1200, but there is not fitting for a quick starter. Again presumed to be for a military order.
