I have a camping stove that calls for Coleman Fuel, white gas, or naptha. Has anyone tried using naptha as a substitute for for Coleman Fuel? Just wondering since I suspect that naptha could be less expensive than Coleman Fuel in Europe. Al
Al yes it is and I use it all the time. The stuff we can get in the UK is panel wipe and I buy WasBenzine in the Netherlands. Both are naphtha fuels and vastly cheaper than Coleman fuel. ::Neil::
I've seen the phrase "panel wipe" tossed around quite a bit, but I really have no clue what it means. So, what does it mean to wipe your panel???
Car body panels, Al. Panel wipe is a degreaser wiped over the panels immediately prior to spray painting to ensure all oil-based residues are removed. These would otherwise prevent the paint adhering to the surface...
I'm beginning to appreciate Coleman Fuel at $10/gallon. Naptha here is $7/quart, so I can feel your pain. How much does panel wipe cost?
Very much depends where you go, Al. Where I worked previously, there were two suppliers about 6-7 metres apart, diagonally opposite each other at a set of crossroads. One was selling panel wipe for just under £10 for 5 litres; the other was selling exactly the same stuff for over £15 for the same amount...
Hello all as my first post I will add my thoughts to the latest topic on the forum. I have collected and played with lamps for over twenty years now and have a wide variety from around the world with a fair few from the U.S.A. petrol is not a good substitute for coleman fuel. I have also been using panel wipe but when we use it indoors do we really know what the exhaust emmissions are. There is another fuel a couple of us have been trying and I think it gives a better light than panel wipe. Aspen is the name and the claim is that it is virtually free from sulpher, benzine and aromatic hydrocarbons, in fact 99% fewer harmful hydrocarbons. The smell in its unburnt state is about the same as panel wipe so I would think it to be naptha based. Its intended use is in Garden machinery etc. The price is around £17 but its not easy to get hold of. A list of dealers can be found www.aspen.se.
I have always been under the impression that Coleman Fuel is Petroleum Naptha. I have a hard time coming up with a true definition of "White Gas" other than it is untreated gasoline. Please correct me? Thanks Dan MacPherson
White gas means no additives. Coleman fuel is indeed a naphtha and is alnost exactly the same as Panel wipe Etc. ::Neil::
