My quicklite has a separate pump and appears to be made in Canada. I was trying to view the instructions in the ref. library but was unable to. What is the function of the thumbscrew on the filler cap I only seem to be able to build up pressure in the tank by removing it (the thumb screw) and pumping direct to the filler cap, the ball bearing seals shut ok. Is it purely to release pressure when turned off? Seems a bit long winded doing this ? Cheers Nick
That screw shall be opened slightly when you pump pressure in to the tank. Never removed. After that, it shall be well closed. Inside the lid is a simple non return valve in the form of a check ball. This type of nrv does not seal perfectly, hence the extra seal with the thumb wheel which is of the more reliable "needle against a seat"-type. Sometimes the little steel ball inside the lid is clogged. You shall be able to hear it rattle when shaking the lid. If it doesn't, put the whole thing in acetone or paint thinner over night and try again the other day. The air channel in the screw might also be clogged. Worth checking.
Thanks @Carlsson I have managed to get it going now with your advice and some experimentation! My pump may not be the correct one ie. it’s not a large tube one so I have to pump quite a few times to get it’s pressure up! many thanks Nick.
Cheers! Sound like you got the shorter pump for the clothes iron. Well, it works too. Just need to pump more strokes, as you noticed.
Fine, bullet proof lantern! Pump size doesn't matter. As stated, small pump requires a few more pumps.
I think these are a great lantern. Built like a tank which is one reason why these have lasted as long as they have.
