So as I mentioned in another post I found a mystery lantern on FB marketplace. It was described as a "Tilly"but even from the very dark 'photo it was obvious it wasn't. Now I've picked it up and had a ferret through the reference gallery I'm thinking it's a bialaddin 300x. I can't find the engraving I've seen on the lamps in the gallery but who knows what is under all that bird poo. Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome my first non-Tilley. Once I've given it a bit of a wash and brush up I'll have to find out how they work. Is that a built in pre-heater ?
As in, spirit cup and roll of fire-proof wick to prolong spirit burn, yes. Maybe you’ll find my post HERE on fettling a maroon-coloured font Bialaddin 300X useful. John
@Gazngoz A good start to your Vapalux/Bialaddin Collection! These are simple robust lamps and straight forward to fettle. Looking forward to seeing back lighting the dark.
@presscall Great post, thanks for that - really useful @malcolm race @BigStevie thanks guys. Looking forward to getting her going again
@Gazngoz That’s a nice non-Tilly disguised as a Bialaddin 300X. She should clean up very well and be a good dark killer. I’m looking forward to seeing the “money shot” (the lantern’s first light after restoration). Enjoy Pete
