Hello everyone! I am a French collector, i have been reading you for a long time, but I had never registered; it's now done, and even though I don't really have any treasure in my collection, I'll try to show some pretty lamps from time to time. I've chosen to start this Liberty Lighthouse number one. It arrived incomplete and in rather poor condition; but with a few (well known here regulars, like Conny C, Michel B and others), I was able to complete it and give it that beautiful look. Fred KUNTZ made the mica. This copy is interesting for a very particular reason: it is the only known one that has this reflective, sliding mirror, which allows the light to be steered in a precise direction. A real lighthouse, like lighthouses at sea in a way!! As seen in the photos, the pump is quite unusual, and does not work on the same principle as usual. Thanks in advance for your comments, and see you soon hopefully for more lamps! Serge
Hi Serge, and welcome to this forum! That DBD Phare Liberty lantern is one of a kind. Nice burner features and nice and odd design! I recon you have a Fred Kuntz mica globe on that lantern but what puzzles me is the back small reflector I´ve never seen on this lantern before. Is it original? Maybe some kind of searchlight component? /Conny
Good evening Conny, Yes this mirror is strange.... Obviously it is original, (same wear as the rest, same coating); I think it was an accessory that could be bought as an option, which very few people chose; as this lamp is already rather rare, it may explain that we had not seen this mirror before; that's my hypothesis...
A beauty she is, most definitely! Very sympathetic restoration and an excellent addition to the lantern gallery. Many thanks for posting.
