Hello everyone. Look at what i did to this X246. I will be interested in what people have to say weather it's good or bad. Have I committed the ultimate lamp sin. Or am I just a sick person.
Well that depends on what you started with. It is not a rare or expensive lamp. I have seen all colours, I suspect some building/engineering companies would paint theirs to make them less subject to going walkabout.. I think yours looks great! Chris
I think it looks rather good. Some were plated with silver painted cages, some were painted gold, so I see nothing wrong with painted silver. If you worked for the bank you would have said it was platinum
@Fireexit1 Watch this space! Just looking at Brian’s Guardsman he’s painted silver and doesn’t look wrong. I fancy trying black on one of the TLs, deep and glossy.... maybe the lamp gods will have it in for me now!
Coupled with a brown-hooded version the usual gold colour for the tank and cage looks right. Black hood, silver works well.
Maybe I'll get a rattle-can of Candy Apple Red next time I'm in Halfrauds. Also, Lidl do some adventurous colours in spray cans prior to Christmas - white with gold flecks, that sort of thing. Should look OK with a fairy on top...
Now you're just being silly, Henry - I wasn't planning to light it; simply use it as a Christmas decoration...
@Buggerlugs I’ve got two that I bought painted silver. One is here: Tilley X246 (1950-54) That lamp is one I take car camping. Cheers Tony
Thanks to all who responded, that's not what we expected to here from you all, so we are happy that all is well in Tilley land. Tilley on my brothers and sisters.
