Now I know the Bialaddin T10 divides opinion, but I had the opportunity to purchase this along with some additional “Tilley spares”... I will probably restore the T10 but it’s fare to say it was the spares that caught my eye. 169 / 606 NOS vaporisers over 2 dozen mantles, (I have never used these before) A couple of 171 Davisil glasses and some interesting reading in the form of original instructions for a Sankey Flora blue flame convector heater, Tilley iron and a Super Aladdin Model A. Although I do have a Tilley iron in the workshop somewhere I’m not sure how useful the vaporisers will be.
@Gary Waller That’s a good haul mate! Bet you start to fall in love with your T-10, I got one in a Tilley haul and it’s become a keeper now.
@paparazi i think I have a glass for the T10 in the workshop, but it will probably be the later one, T805.
Yeah I know they are quite sort after. I have one on a scrap 310 but I think it’s cracked, also I have loads NOS of the later Vapalux marked ones with the stepped bottom, not sure why I bought them...
The 'Davisil' glasses in blue ink are to my mind the earliest glasses that firmly belong with the porker range of Tilley's then new X246 model. The vaporizers in their period packages must be a collector's delight. You did alright! Mike
The Tilley irons are, er, interesting. They do have an adjustable vapouriser to allow a range of temperatures of the sole-plate for various fabric types but in reality there only two settings - 'off' and 'global thermonuclear warfare'...
@David Shouksmith I have so far resisted temptation to try and light the iron, it’s just sat on a shelf (bit like the electric one in the house) I think I’m going to give it a go..lighting the Tilley one that is..
If the first prime fails you definitely need to let the iron cool right down before you try to add more alcohol for the second prime. When I did it (in the greenhouse!) there was such a bang, I thought some of the glass panes might blow out... Don't try to iron anything of value, sentimental or real, no silk, no man-made fibres etc. Try an old potato sack to begin with but if you burn a hole in that, don't come running to me...
