Hi Lamp Collectors, As I said in my earlier topic requesting identification of this tool. I will offer this tool in a competition to anyone who has a lamp that it services. Criteria are: Post a picture of your lamp and I will then put all entries into a hat and draw one name out, the winner. The winner will get the tool for postage only. End date for requests is January 31st 2012. Maybe it might make a bit of fun and get some pictures of lamps for us to see? Post your pics on this thread. Steve.
Excellent idea, Steve! I'll have a rummage around tomorrow to find a suitable Primus that this tool was meant for, and hopefully I will find one that I haven't posted in here before.
Well, then! Here's the first entry to the contest. I found a lamp I haven´t posted here before, and it's of course one which this tool was made for! It's a Primus 1015 from 1931 (V) that sits on a cabinet in the dining room.
Hmmm neat idea but I will decline the invite because I have one of these wrenches so better to let it go a collector who does not. ::Neil::
OK I will try my luck not going for two notes just sharing both for fun one goes to camping once in a while the other sorry to say is a shelve queen that was found mint locally
Seeing that I don't have this spanner, I better put an entry in. Here is a Primus 994/2 from 1934 (Y15). I thought it would be appropriate as it's from the same year as the catalogue that shows the spanner. 1934 was the first year that the 994 was sold.
Great pictures, and that was the primary idea of my post, to get more lovely pictutes on the site. Only three entries so far! So I now increase the prize to free postage to the winner. Come on! "Don't hide your light under a bushel" as my Granny used to say, let's see em! Steve.
Only three entries so far! let's have a few more pictures boys and girls. Going for a little trip to north Lincolnshire to see my old (92 yrs) Mum. Have a good life folks, you only get one and it is not a practice!. Steve.
Hi Steve Obviously this tool can be used on this 1933 - 991 lantern. Sorry for that white thing Neil! /Conny
Nice one Conny. And good that you posted. I was just about to bump this thread. There got to be alot of folks that has some Primus suited for this topic. Practically any lamp or lantern they made in the thirties seems to have used this tool, so keep 'em coming
This is a 1020 that was lurking in the garage roofspace while I was fettling the Unic No.9. There was another one up there which I got down to photograph, but then mustn't have done so for some reason...
Neat! Looks like the glass says CON, so I guess that Condrup had their own logo etched to the glass, right?
Yes, CON for Condrup... I can't remember if that globe came with the lantern or not. I've definitely bought a CON globe separately quite recently, but I can't remember if that's it. I also can't remember if it's etched or stencilled - I'll have a look at it on my way out to work...
Thank you all five entrants so far. It has been great to see some pictures of lamps and lanterns that we would otherwise not have seen. Come on folks, there is still time to make your entry. Just post a picture of any lamp or lantern that would have been sold with this wrench, or offered this wrench as an optional extra and you will be included in the draw. Best of luck to all - Steve.
Draw has taken place. Only five entrants and the winner is Nils Stephenson. PT me with your mail address Nils and the tool will be sent to you. Thanks to all who posted lovely pics of lamps - Steve.
That was a good idea of yours there steve, Good fun Maybe we should have more comps like that around here with some sort of prize at the end of it. Conrats Nils Ray
Thanks Steve, this is a surprise. Not often I win anything. Maybe if I entered more competitions it might help. PT will be sent.
...and well deserved IMHO, always a "fount" of knowledge when it comes to the Swedish lanterns (along with Christer). Cheers Trevor
The spanner turned up today. Thanks once again for the competition. Here's a picture of it lying on the lamp I photographed. Unfortunately it shows up the poor nickel.
I agree! I'm sure it has a good home at Nils. Congrats Nils! And thanks for the idea with the competition Steve. Nils, or anyone else for that, any ideas why it's sort of spoon shaped at the larger end? I guess that this larger spanner is meant for the vaporiser nut. Is it just simply dished to ease access for the nut since it's often a bit down in the bottom plate?
You are correct that it is the right size for the vaporiser, but I can only guess what it can be for. One possibility is that it was originally designed for the 1001/1015 burner. The turned down edges could let it be used on the bottom part of the vaporiser without removing the air tubes. Here is a photo to try and explain what I mean.
Ah! But of course! It's said "for the central tube" in the catalogues, so obviously you are correct. How neat.
