This is one of the earliest pressure lanterns bought when I decided to branch out from wick lanterns. I believe I've had it for over 30 years! Even after all this time I'm still not sure how old it is. It looks like an early 1930's but not sure...
Sorry, I had more pictures: I thought the old paper work might help to date this lantern. All this was in a box which later completely apart. The lantern originally had a glass globe. Bad news though, it shattered the second time I lit it.
Nice lantern there @george Yours must be NOS or hardly ever used? I'd guess 1930s too. A close resemblance to the Petromax 821 "Baby" although there are some difference in details. I've got one with the original glass missing and being replaced with a similarly sized Sunflame globe. The fiber wheel's missing too although the three-clawed pricker wheel support is still present. The pump nrv side had broken off internally. I've not work on it yet. It has a nameplate bearing the name of an Indonesian importer or customizer. Again, the nickel plating had been removed by some bare-brass enthusiasts.
@george That's a nice 200 and interesting to see it with the tag and accessories packets. It is from the mid 1930s and is determined by the filler cap. Of course a filler cap can be changed, but here it looks original.
@Nils Stephenson Thanks, Nils. This is exactly the way I received the lantern 30 years ago. It was in the original box, so I assume nothing was replaced. Box fell completely apart years ago; I did keep a small piece of it. It was a real shame about the glass. That broke right after I got the lantern. It was an original glass, made by Schott with the Optimus logo.
@paul m Yes, it did. I found the piece of the box I saved. The script on the globe looked very much the same as what's pictured here on what's left of the box.
This lamp from Titoo here shows a good example of what the original glass would have looked like. The writing on the tape is more like the later logo, as found on a 200P of Christer's here.
Hi George, Nils Stephenson gives the right date around 1935. I own this one with the original glass Schott Jena. I love it your lantern in perfect condition Best regards, Titoo.
@Nils Stephenson @Titoo Thanks to you both. The glass in my 200 did not look like either of these. It appeared to look "older" more flowing... Not really sure how to describe it. The Optimus logo on the glass looked like the logo on the tank and the 200 was not a "blocked" numbered but more flowing. I wish I had taken a photo of the glass before it cracked. It would have made identification a lot easier.
