Hi All, Newbie here. I just acquired what I believe is a 1948 Coleman #152A lamp. It has no paint and the brass fount has been polished. It has no sticker, so assume it is a gasoline lamp. But I don't really know, as there is no paint either. Just curious If I could get some help. -What mantles does this lamp use? -Can I use Coleman white gas in the lamp? Any other info would be much appreciated. Thanx for any help! Dave
LB is Long Beach, California Bottom marked A The Sunshine of the Night 48 Witchita, Kansas... I think the pictures are loaded: Ok here it goes: Hope this helps.
wow, Dave You are almost within shouting distance. I'm up at the 710 and Firestone. I'm not positive but I think your lamp burns gasoline (coleman fuel) only. also a #21 silklite mantle (or two) would work fine. If I am not mistaken these used a glass globe and parchment shade. Others here know far more than I do, though. Better get a second opinion. Dan MacPherson
Hi Dave, Welcome to the group! Looking at your pictures it looks like its the gasoline version as it does not have a pre-heater cup. The 152 version of this lamp could burn either gasoline or kerosene depending if you had the pre-heater and correct generator. I've attached a closeup of the label. You can tell if the burner on your lamp can burn kerosene by checking the middle burner tube at the top end. If it has the two dimples as shown in the picture below, it has the internal restrictor tube which was added for kerosene operation. The dimples hold the internal tube in place. If you want to burn kerosene, you will have to get a pre-heater cup (P/N 201-5101 still available from Coleman) and "make up" a generator as the T44K is no longer available. If you wish to do that, we can point you to numerous posts on this site which explains this process. Assuming you have a gasoline generator, your lamp will for burn the best with Coleman fuel. Do not use regular pump gasoline. Use #21 mantles. T44 generators are no longer made. The modern replacement is Coleman P/N 220E-5891. Both are currently available. The 152 originally came with a plastic shade which required a glass globe shade/mantle protector (which can be seen in the pictures in the link). This is P/N 132-355 and is no longer available from Coleman but can be found on Ebay occasionally. The globe holder on your lamp is on upside down and is a bit bent out of shape. If you don't want to go the original plastic or modern parchment or fabric shade route, you can use a glass shade, modern reproductions are quite readily available. You will then not need the glass shade/mantle protector but you'll have to change out the globe holder for a glass shade holder. I'm sure others will add more info, but this is a bit for starters. Regards, Dan
No, it didn't... When you're uploading images to the forums, you need to read the text in red print in the File Manager i.e. you need to click on 'Full-Size' or 'Thumbnail' at the left of each image. What that does is to automatically enter the requisite code in your text to make the image(s) actually appear in your post at the place where you left the cursor. See Dan D's post above...
Ok, thanx for the up load heads up. I saw the full size to the left of the pics and assumed it was set as default, so I didn't click on it. Cheers!
Upon pressuring up, the filler cap leaks. What model filler cap gasket will this lamp need. Can I assume the burn out the old gasket, clean and replace with new gasket is the prefered method? Thanx for all the help so far! It is appreciated! Dave
well Today I became the new owner of a 152. It looks complete. Has a plastic shade-original per the seller. And the 355 globe which I hope will arrive unbroken. Dan MacPherson
