I wish you Happy new year ! :)

I'd like to ask, what is inside in the Coleman gas generator tube? it's look like a simple aluminium tube, what is inner diameter is ~5mm outer diameter is ~6,5mm and it has inside some kind texture.

what do you think can i make a new gasgenerator, it's looks simple..

I got a new one some years ago now, from Leacock Coleman, I think it was - the Amish community, anyway. It wasn't that expensive and their service was good.

    Maybe they still supply them...

    Hi Roy,

Leacock Coleman does have them here. I have bought their peerless mantles and they are VERY good. Like David said, their service was excellent. I had the mantles in a couple of days.

Mike at Old Coleman Parts also has them for a very good price. here

He takes PayPal and I'm fairly sure he ships international. Also excellent service.

    Good luck,
    Dan

    Thanks guys.
I saw too, there is oldcolemanparts, & leacock but that is in USA, and i found in the ebay too, but that is in usa too. I live in Europe, in Hungary. I asked the ebay sellers, they say " we don't send nothing to europe, because we can't do export"
The generator price is 10 dollars, but the shipping cost and the taxes, and toll will be more than ~50 dollars.

If i found in europe, the shipping cost is max 15-25 euros, and no taxes and no toll. But if i not found in europe, i'll must order from USA or make it myself.

I live in Europe, too, and Leacock sent the generator to me and didn't charge anything like $50. If I recall correctly, it was a total of $17 for the generator, including shipping and handling. I had it within 5-6 days.

The only problem was that the jet was blocked when I received the generator and the lantern gave out a measly 6cp. Once I'd got the correct pricker for it, the lantern ran very well. They don't like much pressure at all - a few pumpstrokes at most...

    Hi Roy,

Just to confirm David's experience, I checked the US Post office pricing on a 1 lb (.45 kg). package to Hungary.
    First Class : $11.39
    International Priority: $13.25

You can't rely on shipping quotes from Ebay sellers.

You should contact Leacock & Old Coleman and ask them for a quote.

On the subject of these generators a word of caution. They are made of aluminium and intended to operate with just about enough heat to vaporise gasoline. It is for this reason the lamps work at a low pressure. However I found out the hard way that you must NOT attempt to light one with a blow torch. I use a torch quite often when I am fettling a lamp and want to see if I can get a Bunsen flame but when I did that with a milspec it melted the generator. This was VERY interesting and I learnt two things. First don't use a blow torch on a milspec and second a milspec lantern is pretty tough and will survive being thrown 20 yards and being washed down with a hose. ::Neil::

If interested anybody, i put some pics here, what is the gernerator inside?

I think this is a thin cord (or rope?) what is clogged, as seen.

This rope can be made from chrysotile asbestos if the item is old (50-60s), then be careful with it. If not, that's most likely fiberglass.

I guess you can take a new fiberglass rope and put it into that tube. Fiberglass ropes are available at home hardware stores for wood stove gaskets.

I believe cotton string will also work. But, the generator may no longer be sound when re-bent. as in several small holes... The tips can be pricked with a cleaning needle from a 200A generator as the pricker tips and orifices are the same size at .006"..

Just use a piece of fiberglass rope. It's pretty cheap. You can also clean the tube itself in carb cleaner.

Cotton might just work. I can't be sure but these lamps operate pretty cool compared to any other types. The generator temperature is just high enough to vaporise the gasoline so with fuel inside cotton may survive. Glass fibre will be better and will certainly stand the heat because glass melts at a much higher temp than aluminium so the tube would melt before the glass. ::Neil::
