As requested I will do a post showing the differences between the two lamps. Where things are both photographed the Kayen is on the left. Also the Kayen is cleaner and more shiny. I did not polish the Tilley because I fire it up now and again and it wrecks all the good work. The CL12 is smaller than theAL21. Height to top of the cowl 265 mm vs 270mm. Mouth of the body 174mm vs 180mm. depth of cowl, back to front 43mm vs 48mm. The catch of the CL12 was made by me as the original was missing. Note the CL12 is generally of lighter construction. eg the legs. Straight cuts are made on the CL12 rather than curves on the AL21. eg. the hand heat shield, hinges and door catch, hinges and door catch
Thanks Jim, nice post. Same odd burner as mine too. Good lamp. There should be a few more show up too if people know they exist. As Neil pointed out a while ago they are the size of the AL11 but designed like the AL21.
Hi there! Many thanks for the detailed photos of two great lanterns!...Really interesting to see all the similarities
@jmwatt Two questions: 1. The pump on the CL12 is different from any Kayen or Tilley pump that I’ve got in my possession. Is the pump swappable with the Tilley AL21? 2. Can you please photograph the vapouriser in the CL 12? Cheers Tony
Hi Tony Vapouriser photo. Not sure if it is original. The mate who gave it to me used to take it camping and calls it a Tilley Torch. The fellow who in turn gave it to him told him it was used in the early 1950s when a Garratt was derailed in Brisbane Jim
I have a selection of vapourisers from various sources.I will see if there are different ones. I did notice that the knurled section was shallower ,top to bottom, than others of a similar length. Jim
