Has anyone done this? I've watched a youtube video where someone added a plastic cable grommet strip on the fount rim. i thought that was pretty neat idea protecting the paintwork or the rim from the hard surface. i don't usually have lamps sitting on top of rough hard surfaces like sand, cement, rocks or asphalt. But the paint or plating at the bottom does wear out eventually. I could not find the plastic ones online, but i did find this.. So, i went ahead. I thought maybe even if it does't fit. i will just line other pesky furniture edges, doors and things. Fast forward, and this happened.. Fits the E41S and Coleman 327. Petromax was one of the easiest to side onto. And because its rubbery, i guess the lamps will not try to run away while you pump
Well I have never had slipping away lanterns but it is a neat idea, red for gasoline, black for kerosene, white for spiritus. But you should consider a spiral cable binder to the bail. So the bail will not scratch the font.
@WimVe Great idea with color coding for fuel types! But incidentally Japanese and Korean users have got other ideas with that and with leather Just go on ig and search #vapalux
Nice idea, like it. Is there a danger of trapping moisture at the rim and potentially causing rust on steel tanked models?
Two good ideas - three including Wim's about the colour coding. Mind you, I'd have put the leather seam on the inside of the handle rather than the outside but it's a small point...
@Alex Smith I guess there is a need to check on the steel tanks from time to time. Just lesser on new paint. I do have to disagree to use the leather one on steel, unless you know the chemicals used for the leather doesn't eat steel. In the past i had some random mixed leather strips rest on steel. The steel had complete rust under some strips but not the others. I have heard of fountain pen users have had leather cases corroding the plated steel pen clips just after leaving them there for a month.
That will probably be because of more traditional tanning practices? i.e. ...the use of a certain widely available product
I bought some a few months back for an old 4WD that has this stuff around the doorways and the top of the windscreen (softtop car). When I got it home it fitted the doors very well but the windscreen had a smaller height. So maybe some will work better on bigger lantern rims and another size on smaller ones. Interesting idea. Thanks for the post @isfuzzy
