If anyone is walking down the Beach road in Singapore, pop into The Heritage Store for a look The owner has a great variety of lamps for sale. Prices are sky high. No doubt why he has so much stock Was tempted to get some stuff but my bags were already full and it was the last day. Anyway check out the pics for some interesting sights
I think I'd be pricing up a shipping crate and finding out how much to send 10 or 20 back home! There are some interesting old beauties there for sure. My wife would have had to drag me away!
I asked about the donuts. He wanted 900 Singapore dollars. I have 2 at home I offered to sell him. Thought he was going to take me up on it Definitely a guy who buys more than he sells. He has a site on Facebook and does sell on the internet
900 Singapore dollars is way too high for me. But that'll depend on the lamp's existing condition. If its complete and restorable into operating condition, maybe its worth considering.
There is another shop at the end of Chinatown with some lamps, from granny's wall lamp to Aladdins to pressure lanterns.. Much like this shop, that one deals with antiques too but less dusty. Perhaps @MYN can drop by there when its safe to come to Singapore. I've seen pressure lamps there but most are 250cp sizes, not sure how many he has in storage.
Best thing to come from Singapore is a sling .. leave the lamps .. The Singapore Sling is a gin-based sling cocktail from Singapore. This long drink was developed sometime before 1915 by bartender Ngiam Tong Boon, who was working at the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel, Singapore. Wikipedia Main alcohol: Gin Ingredients: 1 dash Angostura bitters, 1 oz Gin, MORE Preparation: Pour all ingredients into cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into highball glass. Garnish with pineapple and cocktail cherry. Served: Well shaken, with ice Standard garnish: Maraschino cherry, Pineapple slice Drinkware: Highball glass
Remember sitting in the long bar in raffles a rew years ago and asked for a Singapore sling because it's the thing you have to do while you're there. Thankfully my wife was sitting next to me because it wasn't to my taste so she got a double shot. That place would have been incredible back in the day with it's high ceilings lit with paraffin lamps
