I do not know who else got the same sentiments as i do. I always believe any lamp glass should be signed off by the brand name or manufacturer of some kind for identification. I don't have any means of printing on glass. My initial thought was to make a rubber stamp for a brand and use etching agent or temperature paint for glass.. But that rubber stamp seems rather unethical afterwards. What if i get some decals made to order? Just to label the glass they sent me in the lamps.. Is producing or buying decals of these brands unethical? After all, i will be pasting on their own products
This is what I was speaking about, I went ahead to try with my name letterhead. Finished in gold, nickel sticker. They do stick very well on glass. I went ahead to stick on generic aftermarket glass.
That is my idea too but only if the glass IS original made by or for the company. Taking a new glass and put an old marking on would be fraud in my book. Puting your own name on it would be an idea but why only the globe, I would then mark the lantern too.
As for Vapalux, the glass shipped by Vapalux Korea now are really thick, grinding cutting makes on the ends. Unlike the real NOS. I would remove any country of on the Vapalux logo for that matter. Even if the new ones are made in China, if the glass company makes technical glass, why not even hunt down the company logo and see if it looks OK to 'identify' it on their glass
Another batch of my labels arrived in the mail. This time i did request a few made with this logo, left out the country of origin… And yes, they only went on the glass which the company originally sent me. Why in gold? The bulk of the labels are im gold, i do not have the red option. I do not want my name to be in red No problems with the heat so far, this is the first time trying on hot glass. When marked, isn't it easier to identify
Leaving aside any moral questions for a moment they look really great! Another method of marking glass globes would be to have adhesive masks made in the shape of the logo and use glass etching fluid to create a frosted logo. Paint can then be brushed over and the excess gently wiped off... or it could be left as it is like many logos still are. Glass etching fluid is pretty nasty stuff though so caution in needed when you use it!
