Tilley AL21

Thought i would crank this tilley AL21 up tonight.
I bought this lamp back from the brink of no return. It has a fine leak where the tank and feed tube to the cock valve meet. I dont start it up very often, not sure how to fix it.
Its a great lamp.

Easily starts up.

It is very cool,
And this is where it weaps from, ever so slightly

Hello Darren, the leak is most likely caused by a crack in the solder joint.

 

For an ignoramus such as me, apart from tthe design what differentiates the AL6 from the FL6 in terms of the use it was put?

The FL6 is a much bigger light, casts a wider beam, and is mounted on a frame or tripod, so used to light up a relatively large area.

The AL21 (which is what I think you meant) is carried by hand (a large hand torch) and fits the mould of an inspection torch that can also be rested on the ground or other surface.

Thank you for the explanation. Of course I did mean the AL21. Scale is not apparent from the photographs and I had never heard of the AL21.

Great lamp though.

Looks great and it can't be much of a leak if it's burning so well?

It may not show up too well on a dunk test but worth a try?

Jeff will be on the money regarding the solder, so if all was cleaned nicely then with suitable flux and probably not much heat applied all would be good?

Or you could try sealing off the feed tube by accessing from the filler (more or less directly above it) and use the POR15 thingy treatment??

Anyway, some food for thought maybe
