Hi Just bought an Opal Glass Shade said to be original Tilley for a table lamp as I broke mine but on checking it seems so much lighter than my original that I repaired. I weighed both and my original weighs 577 grams the one I bought of Ebay weighs only 440 grams, a difference of 137 grams. Does anybody know if that sort of difference in weight would be right for an item sold as an original Tilley shade? Regards Bob
In my experience, Tilley shades do vary in weight and quality, but photographs will help us to assist you.
Certainly looks OK but you may notice that your own original shade feels rough around top and bottom rims. I think repro shades are smooth all around. Others may tell just by looking at your pic.
Thanks Jean and Jeff for assistance. It is rough around half of the top and quite rough around a thin line at the bottom, so will consider it original unless anyone suggests otherwise with good reason. Regards Bob
I just weighed 2 I have on lamps in the living room both I know originals. One is 440 grams one is only 392grams Both are rough top and bottom like Jean says so must vary quite a bit. Tilley would have had these made out and bought them in for their lamp sales maybe it's different suppliers Cheers pete
