I know Tilley stopped using this kind of NRV in late 1935. Does anyone know when they started using it? Cheers Tony
Aha. That one. Im sure I have just the one of those. Now to find it. Could you show the top of the pump please @podbros
(Sigh).. I've put it away now?... Ok, give me 10 mins, I'm just straightening the ash pan, then there's the bedding to wash blah blah...
Very good thanks Podbros. I don't think I have seen a pump with the knurled part that thick, nor the cylinder cap thing or the bulky flat topped thumb push bit either.
I only have 3 pumps with the raised lettering, 2 of them are on the older polished TL's and one is on a older R1.. Pretty sure the other table lamp one is the same as this one on the top, but not sure of it's location.. I know where the heater is so could have a look tomorrow or the next time I am at the lock up??
Recently I was restoring one of the pumps which Tony mentioned and I noticed that the bayonet fitting cap would not accept just any Tilley brass seal holder, it has to be one which has a circular top and one which is smaller in dimension than the usual circular brass seal holder. Luckily I found one.
Out of Curiosity where can I buy Viton sheets from to make NRV for my Tilley Lamps. Is there any places in Australia or websites that anyone can recommend please. Also I want to buy a punch what size are Tilley NRV 3mm ? Cheers Kiwi
@Kiwiboy00 There is a company, Hytech, in Melbourne that sells viton sheet, washers, pips etc. They sell on the Bay of Evil. Tony
Thanks Tony I will check them out. I was going to buy a hole punch and make my own NRV but was not sure what size punch to use for Tilley and depth of sheet to buy. Just renewed my subscription, this is such a great site. Cheers Kiwi
You can buy premade Tilley pips from The Fettlebox. It’s too bloody cold here for me to get out of bed and go to the shed to check the pip size, yet… Cheers Tony
Cheers mate, The temperature definitely is dropping especially here on the Gold Coast. Good reason to spark up the lamp lol Cheers Kiwi
These images are from the few dated Tilley Instruction booklets I have showing these bayonet type NRVs. So certainly mid 1933 to mid 1934 but probably 1932 to at the latest mid 1935. ::Neil::
@Mackburner FYI(from a Tilley Agents letter of December 1935}: "We have now reverted to the screw-in type of valve guide in place of the loose valve cap which was locked in position by turning to the right. There was always a tendency for the latter - and the valve itself - to be lost, and for this reason we have decided to go back to the original type. At the same time we have taken the opportunity to improve the efficiency of the pump, and it is now extremely satisfactory. Kindly note the price of the new pump is 4/- subject." Cheers Tony
