    Gosh, is that really as large as it looks or is it an optical illusion?! Huge, and handsome.

    Hum... I too thought that the French lanterns were smaller... is that one of the larger models of table lamps then @Michel ?

    Lovely Repousse type work on the fount and decorative leaf work... Lovely all round, really :)

    @Conny C , I'm old fashioned ;-)
    the old lady still needs to be rubbed a bit after the repair works, but you can admire the bindweed leaves and flowers.
    the lamp was covered with an ugly varnish which left traces on the brass

    @podbros Yes it is the largest of the models from Unic

    @Lighthouse @Henry Plews

    Yes, the French made impressive table lamps. Here is two of my French lamps,
    from left ca.1915 Guenet & Abbat Succés Lampe Centrale 80 cm, and 1912-15 Liotard Aine lamp 75 cm.

    @Conny C

    Ils sont magnifiques.

    Tall lamps may seem unstable because of their height but they come into their own when people are sat round a table. You don't need to be a contortionist to see the person opposite because the light is above your line of sight.

    Well the thing is the French manufacturers made not only lamps but also gave them some beauty. Extra leafs, feet, nice rim, etc.
    Nice lamp(s) @Michel :content:
