Has anyone managed to find a candle lighter that is narrow and long enough to work for lanterns with small holes?
Nope. Haven't found any that is as thin as you would like. I'm looking for one too. I know what you mean.
For very little money you can buy wicks for candle making at Aliexpress ( type 'candle making' in their search engine). They come in many different lenghts. @Krisse
What about a standard long kitchen match? That's all I've ever used and they always seem to work. Don't confuse them with regular pipe matches, they are too short.
I have a lighter (the one at the bottom in the picture below), that should be slightly thinner than the one in the picture you posted earlier, @Krisse . I know you would like something with a tube that's at least as thin as the one shown on top of the lighter.
You can dismantle a standard lighter. The only thing to work out is the piezo lighting. The gas is in a small tube.
I can pre-heat 200A gens through the lighting holes with this butane torch. Just noticed the price has nearly doubled on them like everything else since the pandemic https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RKVHJH...abc_KN4X38BDN54S4M4475A6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
@bp4willi @Buggerlugs .. They both look useful Have you gents tried both of these?? It would be good to have pics of them in use/ being used if you could? I have seen something similar to willi’s fire stick.. my mum had one, it was silver or silver plate a proper antique
Those flint lighters that @Buggerlugs posted aren’t called “WHOOMP-STICKS” for nothing… I’ve got a few, New Old Stock, that I’ll never put on a lamp or lantern. I use a long twisted brass wire with a wick bound in the end. Soak it in metho, light it and use it as a wick lighter. It’s safe, warms the generator, and eliminates the annoying flare up that Coleman lanterns and lamps are prone to. I will post a photo tomorrow. Cheers Tony
