Hi all, After months of use without issue, my Tilley table lamp has stopped working. It pressurises fine, but when I preheat it and open the valve, the paraffin does not travel up the vapouriser at all (there's no flame, or hissing sound). I've unscrewed the vaporiser (a 604) to examine it and I can't see any blockages... Any idea what could be wrong and how I can get it going again? Kind regards, Shane
The fuel feed tube may be blocked or the filter on the control cock or both. To clear the fuel feed tube, unscrew the control cock and shove a wire down the tube until it touches the bottom of the tank and repeat that action several times, then rinse out the tank with some fresh paraffin. If you have a GF., control cock on your lamp, then just unscrew the part which has the gauze filter in it and clean it, be careful that the spring for the NRV., does not take off. Do let us know how you get on.
Sound advice from @JEFF JOHNSON and afterwards, you can check all is clear by putting a little pressure in the tank and see if fuel exits the control cock. Another possibility is that the fine point on the cleaning wire has broken off and is blocking the hole. With the top off the lamp; can you still feel the pricker when it's supposed to be down ? Even if you can't, the hole may still be blocked. Replacement cleaning wires are available from www.base-camp.co.uk #150 for the 7" 169 vapouriser or #607 for the 5.5" 606.
Hi @JEFF JOHNSON @Henry Plews , I dismantled the vapouriser and control cock and gave them a clean and also removed the needle - there appeared to be a build up of black carbon on it, which I think was causing the issue. She's all fired up now, and seems brighter than ever. Thank you both! Best, Shane
