    Using lanterns, light, for fishing is and was a normal job in some countries.

    Same system was used in Denmark for catching eel. Often you would use a sack containing offal to attract the eel, letting the light shine on it. When caught in the light, the eel would be speared with a kind of thre-blade pitchfork

    Here is a device for attaching the lamp to the boat by flaring eels.
