What’s this for

What’s this tiny hole for in the clamp nut from my PL53

 

I’d always thought that it lets the pressure out when slowly unscrewing the pump.

That makes sense, so it’s more controllable, rather than having paraffin spraying everywhere. I’ve only noticed them today
