Am I right in thinking this is an FL6, the seller says it’s WW2, but I’m thinking not

 

Yes, it's an FL-6 and it could be a WW2., example, but it could be earlier as the first version is from 1937.

Also being the two piece case makes it early as far as I know.
Would that be correct ?
I seem to remember evidence showing that but found early ads looking like a one piece case.

 

Does the 1937 model have the skinny long pump
without the horizontal handle.

Is the 2 piece case only used on the very early ones?
I have seen a FL6 with the decal (not metal/brass plate) on the tank which had the 2 piece case.

 

Ask the seller if the galss pieces are marked. I see chips broken off which with the original hardened pieces would be difficult to get.
I guess that original replament is hard to get.

 

Why would it not be from WWII? Well it certainly looks like it was from that era. What's the colour of the paint?

I had a bit of a look at that a while ago but got conflicting results.
I was going to come back to this question again and I will soon.
So many oddities with FL6 ‘s.

 

One other indication as to age is control cock type (although not a guarantee )

 

I have an early (1937 I think) FL6 and that has a brass badge on the front and long, slim pump. I believe that we’re only produced for a short time, until the transfer and wider pump appeared. Well that’s what Mick Emm told me anyway

 

The question/statement can also be other way around as the OP stated: that’s it is not from WW2.

• WW2 tanks would have the metal/brass badge (based on observations by forum members) which is not present
• Many tanks from the WW2 era did not have the fuel gauge.

Yes, frustrating but also fun to find the misding pieces of the puzzle

 

Genrally sellers have no idea of age.
Antique, WW2 or WW1 era are simple selling tricks most of the time.

Its like collecting German lanterns : everybody wants to have a pre ww2 lantern.
Even if all the signs tell otherwise.

Yes! Why stop at one?

The one on the left is the older of the two (brass plate on tank). That is, of course if the tank wasn’t swapped at some time.

The slim pump FL6 was the first version. It has the brass plate, but so did early FL6s with the larger pump (eg, the one shown above).

Looking at the pictures I tend to agree.

The larger pump came in 2 versions, both have the early version of the larger pump.

 

I have been away up the bush for a while so it has taken this long to check my paperwork but the FL6 was indeed introduced in 1936.
December 1936 to be precise.
