Some time ago I bought this lantern on Ebay. The lantern was in reasonable condition for its age. However, there was a small stresscrack in the fount. After a good cleaning and repair of the crack, a nice lamp appeared. The fount has been treated a number of times with a tanksealer, and then turned out to be leak free again. Hereby some pictures of before and after cleaning.

Congratulations on a fine fettle and well documented topic. I am going to attempt to do repairs on a Thomas lantern fount and my plan is to do exactly how you did it. My fount has 7 stress cracks. I have looked at the fount a number of times over the last few years and nearly threw the tank in a scrap bin a couple of times. I just keep thinking how scrace the lanterns are and finally decided I have to at least try and save the fount.
Johan your lamp turned out really nice! I have recently started restoring an AGM 278. Unfortunately my fount has a leak too. Also I noticed something different about your generator. there is an extra knob on the side near the bottom which mine does not have. is that for cleaning the generator?
That is a Coleman R55 generator and the knob works the tip cleaner. The R55 is compatible with many AGM lamps and lanterns.
