Bad tap?

    Hi all, we have just completed another refurb but when lit if we go to turn it down a little its roars and goes out if i continue to lower it then it relights any ideas please ? this is the lamp it was gold one in first photo

    Hi Tim @tim newcombe , these lanterns are simple on/off devices. What you do by turning the knob is bringing the cleaning needle up or down, hereby partly blocking the flow. There are a couple Coleman lanterns that can be adjusted, but not the Tilleys!

    Ahh you can run them a little dimmer something ive always thought you could do. Weird how all the others i have of the same make and type do run a little dimmer when backed off

    Tim, as stated ; What you do by turning the knob is bringing the cleaning needle up or down, hereby partly blocking the flow. This can result in damage to the cleaning needle due to overheating of the needle. Worst case the needle is burnt off and blocks the jet in the vapouriser.

    Take heed of the above advice. Tilleys don’t “dim”. Also, incomplete combustion of the fuel by “dimming” a Tilley will likely cause carbon build up in the vapouriser.
