my wife will be a millionairess. At least she will if she sells my lamp collection for anything near the price some E Bay sellers are asking, even for lamps requiring a total restoration! I know I can't link to them but have a look at some of the latest posts ... breathtaking. OK I'm sure many won't sell at the price asked but the expectation must be there or there would be no point advertising. Anyway, I'm off to see a building society tomorrow to see if they will let me take out a mortgage to finance my next lamp.
The rare stuff seems to be doing just fine. Here are but two examples. Vintage Tilley-Hendon kerosene pressure Inspection Lamp model AL-11 | eBay Tilley SDR paraffin pressure lamp Rijkswaterstaat | eBay
Remember the collectors maxim: "Don't let my wife sell my collection for what I told her I paid for it"
I’m a newbie so have never seen low prices. I do rather enjoy the challenge of finding more interesting lanterns at prices I can justify. Have had far more success from dealers and classified ads abroad and paying the shipping. I usually can’t afford the interesting stuff sold in the UK.
@Scott D Brexit may have scuppered that supply, but I hope not. Most of my good buys have been from antiques fairs but those guys will wise up quickly. If we ever get back to the days of antiques fairs, I reckon the £15 bargains will be £80 plus "classic antiques".
Perhaps, but even the Coleman 327 I bought from the states was reasonable value even after the customs charge, it was just the postage that was the killer, essentially doubling the price. At least coming from Europe I’m only paying 15 euro postage but maybe that cost will increase. Time will tell!
