The FL6 had two versions of the taller stands. S2 and SS1. The short stand in the 1937 catalogue was the S1. The turn table without the tripod was T1. There was also similar stands for the GL1. The S3 tripod stand and the SS3 being the spiked stand. There are several discussions about the S2 stand on the forum.
Thank you @Anthony I can see that the original Tilley FL 6 Stands are significantly lighter than the one from the Danish Cevil Defense. Is it difficult to find the original. Tom
@Tom Pedersen What you have looks more like a tripod for surveying equipment or telescope/binoculars/rangefinders
I have an original. Galvanized or heavy silver paint. Hard to tell. You can see it in my profile picture. I have other pictures somewhere
Tom, they are definately designed and manufactured for the Danish Civil Defence (Civilforsvaret). Got three of them, they're really the mother of all blue nails!
@Bent Jensen Hi Bent. I have no doubt that it can give blue nails. It is heavy as an evil word when the lamp is sitting on it. Tom
I have received confirmation from an older gentleman that tripods are manufactured for Fl 6, but he did not know if they were manufactured in Denmark. He was a commander in the civil defense when Fl 6 was bought. Tom
Hi Tom. In connection with an other thread, I have looked deeper into these tripods. To me, the seem to be designed and manufactured in DK. They are very meticulously assembled, with paint all the right places. Could they be manufactured at some kind of intern workshop? As a fact, I'm working rather close to the internal Museum of Civil Defence, we sometimes cut branches and such, when they get too close to the fence. I might just ask these guys, if they know anything about this? Chhers Bent BTW, where are you located in DK?
These were tall stands. The heights quoted by Tilley, e.g., 8' for the S2 model, are always to the center of the floodlight so they physically are even a bit taller again. I'm dubious about the spiked stand too, model SS1, as firstly you could never hammer it into the ground around here in Summer. Secondly, if you could get it into the ground easily, then frankly I'd be worrying about the thing tipping over. Has anyone actually used the spiked stand? Love to hear how it went as it's a lot of weight high up.
Anyone ever seen an SS1 stand? - they look highly unstable to me given the weight of an FL6 full of fuel. I wouldn't imagine they were a big seller...
