G'day from Down under, I have been looking and getting a lot of information for some time now from this site and thought it might be time for my first post. I'm a collector of cast iron cooking items such as Camp Ovens, (Dutch Ovens), Water Fountains, Oval Boilers, Digesters (aka cast iron pressure cookers) As well numerous other things, basically anything that’s old and interesting. About 18 months ago I swapped and 11 inch camp oven lid for a Tilley X246 Guardsman lamp and have been hooked with the Tilley bug ever since. I have accumulated around 35 lamps in that time including an FL5 & FL6, an SL61 Hospital lamp with box and accessories, a TL10, 2 X AL21's, an AL620, an AL10, an EX100 and a CS56, an LD1, an R1, R1a and an R55 radiator just to name a few.
As you can probably tell I now have a serious problem, but I can't help it!! As I have always said being a collector the thrill is in the chase, and searching for and finding that rare lamp that’s been tucked away hiding for decades in someone’s shed or attic covered in dust and cobwebs, waiting to be discovered and to be brought back to its former glory and to be lit up and shine that bright light that it once did so many years before. Anyway enough rambling I wanted to share my latest find with you all and hope that someone might have the part I'm looking for to restore and to relight. I was lucky enough to come across an OL50 Outdoor Lifebuoy Suspension Lamp on the weekend and couldn’t believe my eyes. It seemed to be in pretty good shape, the tank was solid and the enamelled chimney and reflector was in good shape, the only thing missing was the burner and the enamelled flue for the burner. I have been trying to add photos but i'm not sure how to resize for posting, all my photos exceed the maximum allowable size for images so any help would be greatly appreciated as i'm keen to show my find.

    Astro,

Welcome to the club! Amazing collection in such short order.

As for photos, there is a link on the top of the forum labeled "Image Optimizer". It's a pretty neat tool that lets you upload a photo and adjust its file size. (You can rotate and do other neat stuff with it too.) I use it quite a bit for other forums since it's so convenient.

The instructions are located on the page, and you can write back if you run into trouble.

    Looking forward to photos!

    Al

You need to optimise your images for the site:

    1. Click on 'Image Optimiser' at top of page.
    2. Click on 'Choose File' and locate the image on your PC.
    3. Click on 'Upload Image'.
    4. You will see two images. The one on the right is the original, the one on the left is the optimised one (smaller file but same quality).
    5. Further adjustments can be made using the options below the image.
    6. Click 'Download this Image'. This will create a copy of the image on your PC with the extension '_opt'. It will probably be in your downloads folder.
    7. When making your post, click on the 'Switch to Full Reply' tab below the text box.
    8. Choose 'Upload image or files'.
    9. Select your image/s with the '_opt' extension.
    10. Click on 'Add'.
    11. Do this for each image.
    12. In the text box, put the cursor where you want the image to appear.
    13. A list of the images will appear in the lower box. Click on 'Full Size' to add image to post. However, if you are posting in the Lamp Reference Gallery there will be a 'Thumbnail' option which you should click on.

Sounds complicated but it works well and is easy peasy after a couple of goes.

What a fabulous collection    And in just 18 months!!
Some seriously hard to find lamps there also.

If you don't mind me asking, where do you come across these gems? Relying on Ebay for some of the less common lamps can put you in the poor house real quick. Here in the US we don't have many other options.

Thanks Dan, being a collector I go to swapmeets, junk/antique shops and just talking to people letting them know what i'm into, you'd be surprised what you can get onto that way. Anyway this lamp addiction is now a problem. I'm heading over to Ireland at the end of the month and who knows what I might find on my travels, I'll be sure to pack light t allow enough room for any lamps that might show up, lets hope anyway.

Thanks for the offer Kenny, unfortunately I will be in and around Cork for the duration of my trip but I would love to see a collection such as yours one day, it looks amazing.
