I got this lamp in the mail couple weeks ago a FB member posted there asking info no one replied with an exact model or brand, I asked him if I was there this would be mine long story short is at my collection now So I was told this is a Economy Lamp but want to dig deeper and get a model number if this is possible or some advertising from that era, a diagram would be great hehehe. If you know something about this please let me know, any info would be appreciated. @Conny C @Mackburner
It's a Sun Gas lamp and the link below shows Conny's example. That's a very lucky find! 1910(?) Sun Gas lamp
A great find and it could probably be restored and working without problems. I used control fiber wheel knobs from other butchered old timer lamps to get the burner functional. The cleaning needle on mine was OK. Identification of these old unmarked American lamps are a bit difficult. Together with the one identical to your lamp, I also have two other old timer lamps with exactly the same burner and only one of them is identified by a manometer on the font , as a Windhorst & Co. (Primo) lamp. In a 1911 Windhorst catalogue they claim they had produced this special burner for another type of lamp shown in that catalogue. True or false, I can´t say. In the PLC Neil has your (and my) lamp as a Sun Gas Co. lamp,. In the Economy Gas section of the PLC Neil also show a nearly identical lamp as a Economy "10 Portable Lamp" from a 1912 newspaper ad. My "third" lamp is also attributed to Windhorst & Co. A general problem in lamp identification using burner and font style type, is, that even marked there are a number of manufacturers using the same fonts and burners. Either some sort collaboration between companies or buying in parts from a third party manufacturer. We need more paperwork from all of these companies to be more certain. Attached you find an image showing the problems of the identification of my three lamps with the same burner …… /Conny
Thanks for all the inputs but how can I get access to Neil’s PLC? I would love to know more about lamps and lanterns. I know I have some uncommon in my inventory so a good source of info will come very handy. Thanks
@Pancholoco1911 To get the Pressure Lamp Catalogue, send a message to Neil, @Mackburner . Cheers Tony
As Conny says it is incredibly difficult to determine who actually made some lamps such as this. Sun Gas or Economy is likely perhaps. I am slightly more inclined to say Economy simply because whilst both are Kansas City companies Sun Gas are not listed in any KC directories and Economy are. I know Economy advertised this as their model 10 and they say they manufactured it but I doubt they did much more than buy in most of the parts and assemble it. To some extent who sold it is more important to me than who made the parts. From this advert we can be sure it was sold as Economy Gas model 10 in 1912 but from the parts it could also be a Sun Gas or Windhorst Primo. ::Neil::
