I am sure I am not the only one to have spotted this but I have seen no previous reference to it in this learned organ. The mantle spigots of Tilley lamps have the same thread as the control cock. I have found this useful when re-painting tanks as an old spigot can be screwed into the control cock bush and be used as a "handle" to manipulate or suspend the tank when the paint is wet. Apologies if already posted.
Well, I didn't know... This is the great thing about this wonderful forum.. always something new Now that's given me an idea ...
They also fit Vapalux and Bialaddin tanks... but sadly not X246 tanks with the bush. (It's a 1/2" BSB thread if anyone wants to know)
That brings back memories. I last came across BSB threads in the late sixties when I built a small steam engine from drawings and castings and have never used them since. I have given never a thought as to what the thread is on lamps.
It's something I am looking into, but I believe most UK made lamps use mostly BSB and BA threads, plus some proprietary ones (e.g. the Tilley vaporizer thread).
It seems quite a few manufacturers used their own threads - certainly Tilley as you say but also the likes of Primus, I think...
Other early lamp manufacturers also used BSB threads . For instance, Coleman use 1/2" BSB on the burner tubes.
