Looks like either a Vapalux or Bialaddin 300 series font to me.

Vapalux surely. Bialaddin has a different profile. Base flange particularly so.

Vapalux 300 steel tank, 1943-1947 ish...
I’m sure someone will put me right if the dates are a tad out.
But that would be my view.

Yup, it's a steel tank so it's wartime manufacture to save brass for the war effort. I recently cleaned, de-rusted and painted a very similar steel tank and it's quite possible to get it looking reasonable again. As steel will carry on oxidising if you don't do anything I believe it's best to treat it and spray paint it. Others may disagree.

This was arguably in worse condition when I got it. ( @Jean J it will be returned to you as soon as this damn bug goes away!)

Yes, and since the tank is steel it's definitely Vapalux, (Bialaddin came on the scene in 1946).

Can’t wait to get that lovely shiny lamp back from Colin and I may even allow it to stay in the house.

I didn’t mean to come over as being house proud David as I’m anything but. Most of my lamps are in the pighoose waiting for decorating to be finished, new flooring put down and new stand made for them in the hall. Just waiting for lockdown to end and warmer weather. Wonder which will come first!

Don't shout about the lamps being in the pighouse. My chickens will want lamps in their house too.

Get away with you, Jean - I'm sure I saw a four-page article about your little but-and-ben in Homes and Gardens, last time I went to the see the dentist... ;)
