I saw a couple of brass Coleman quick-lite lamps for sale. When doing some research, I saw what appeared to be a chrome or nickel version as well. Are these lamps terribly hard to find? The ones I saw did not have shades and looked to be in pretty good shape. Are the shades difficult to find? They look pretty cool.
Coleman sold masses of CQs., and they were built to last, but the bottoms of the tanks are made from steel, so it's best to check for rust and do shake the lamp and listen for stuff rattling about, because the steel bottoms can also rust from the inside. Shades turn up now and then and there are reproduction shades available. This link shows relevant information. CQ, CQF, CQG, CQF
@JEFF JOHNSON thanks for the feedback and link. The 2 lamps I mentioned are available for approx $40 each, but with no shade.
If they're brass, then somebody has stripped the nickel from them. CQ lamps are very common, so if you like brass then go for it. If you prefer nickel and originality then keep looking. For $40, make sure that the hanger rod and shade holder are there. Mike.
In my opinion, the first two are in rough condition and there are no pumps with them, those lamps use an external pump, one vapouriser/generator is missing and so are the hanging rods. Those lamps may restore well enough though. The third lamp is also in rough condition and the shut off valve is a later example, the lamp may also restore well enough. I would haggle over the price though. This link shows relevant pump information. 9 lamp pumps.
@JEFF JOHNSON Thanks for the add'l info and pointing out some weak points. Even before your comments, I think I had decided to pass on these.
