Hey all, I found something too good to not share with CPL. I got a Coleman 220G listed as a 220F on eBay for $40. A complete steal. For those that don’t know, the 220G was made during the 220F lineup as an experimental model. See, it was the pricker lever through the collar instead of the frame. I’ve heard many different things about these. They were given to employees. They were given to stores. This is number 10 known or number 20. I don’t know what is correct. Just that this is one very rare Coleman.
This example is referred to as a model 220F prototype, made five years previous to a few lanterns found stamped model “G” and date stamped in 1969. There have been three dates found for these so far for the prototype: 6/64-7/64-8/64. The model “F” continued to be produced in tandem through this prototype and the “G” in 1969 as well as the first ribbed collar “H” with the similar but 180 degree tip cleaner valve dated 6/72 into 1973.
Larry and I have been discussing this and calling it 220G is not right and would be misleading if it remained in the gallery as such. It was made early during the production run of 220F and is marked as 220F but is clearly a fairly rare variation. It will be listed in the PLC as 220F prototype and whilst it is perhaps using the same valve casting as 220G I have yet to confirm that. In any case it has to be a short run trial as was the 220G and never carried forward into production. ::Neil::
Seems like the warranty says it will be replaced with a 220F....yes, but which 220F? I like that cleaner lever placement.
I have no idea! You experts will have to talk yourself together and let me know when you reached some sort of consensus.
It will be listed in the PLC as 220F prototype. The lamp is clearly marked as 220F and from the limited run with that valve casting a trial of a new part. Listing as FS or FP is again misleading because neither appear on the lamps. When any lamp has a model number marked on it giving a listing with a model number which is never seen will always confuse and I really don't like to do it. I understand well enough the desire to do this and add suffix letters to ID a model variation but it is something I do reluctantly. There are a very few lamps listed in the PLC with an extra suffix letter but always with the caveat that the letter used is my designation. It is always a hard call though. ::Neil::
So it does but not as part of the model number. Maybe you have a point though if all the others are similarly marked. ::Neil::
