Just joined as i've got my first Tilley lamp. Got it off ebay to use in the awning of our vintage caravan when we are at Steam Rallies and shows. The Car Cruiser caravan is a 1960 model and by pure chance the Tilley is dated feburary 1960! Stripped off the paint, fitted all new seals, replaced the broken glass and repainted. Just waiting for a new knob from Tilley.
Hi Dangermouse Nice tilley and welcome P.s It might be your first tilley, but i bet its going to be the first of many
Welcome, nice lantern! You will have to post some pics from your steam rallies as there are some of us on here who love steam as well!
Hi dangermouse welcome to CPL and congratulations on your first Tilley and a very good choice the 246 Guardsman is a far better quality lantern to the modern 246b,and you have done a beautifull job fettling/restoring it,and it will complement you caravan,at the steam rallies which i my self attend in the summer
MMMMM another bad case of lanternitis , at first you think you can stop finding / buying lamps whenever you want to , then before you know it you'll find yourself sneaking outside when no ones looking just to light one up & you know your an addict , great isn't it , nice Guardsman 8) & welcome aboard Do you ever get to Weeting or Strumpshaw Best regards Stu
Yes it seems I might need some lamp therapy. Perhaps it would help if I purchased a few more. Norfolk is a bit of a way from Cornwall, but you never know we may get there one day.
Here are three photo's. First is of our Hemley Dormouse of 1946 and the other is of our Car Cruiser Clubman of 1960 at the Dorset Steam Fair and at home. Our hope is to find lamps that match with the years of our three vintage caravans and to use them in the awnings to light up a few evenings that we have friends around for a drink or two or maybe three.......... .
Thanks for the super pic's of the vintage vans , your refurbed Tilley will go really well with those 8) , really love the "Doormouse" 8) is the awning vintage too & what do you have lurking in there on display Best regards Stu .
I have seen a few little enclaves of Vintage Caravan displays at steam rallies and quite a few were home to a group of closet lamp collectors with some nice and rare Tilley stuff. Makes sense to have period lighting of course. ::Neil::
The awning is a replica made by my Partner last year and we are displaying a collection of barber shop / hairdresser's items from Victorian times up to the 1960's
Bought these at a boot fair some months ago, Only cost a couple of quid. Date stamped on the side of the box as 1939 I'll gladly donate them to your display, if you want them that is ?
Thats ever so kind, but we have several clippers in the collection, including this brand. After quite a few years of collecting, its not very often we find something that we haven't already got in the collection. Maybe time to start a new collecting hobby....now I wonder what that could be...............
