@ColinG If you don't mind me getting personal, may I ask what's the exact Red of your avatar lantern ? It's Chinese New Year and red is a good Chinese colour for a Chinese Lantern.....I'm trying to find an impressive red and the Post Office red that I have just doesn't seem to have that Je ne sais quoi
Literally "I don't know what" - is a French expression used in English to indicate something that has or adds appeal where the words are difficult to find in English. "A certain something" would be closer in English.
Hi @K Wong , the paint I used is by Rust-Oleum and it's called 'Claret Wine'. It is a very rich, deep red that I used to replace the Vapalux burgundy colour that was peeling away from the tank when I got it. The paint is not fuel resistant however so I used an automotive clear lacquer top coat. I think Rust-Oleum is available in a lot of countries so hopefully you can by some. Also, I like your coffee grinder. Is it Turkish maybe? I also use a hand grinder as I think if gives a better flavour, here it is...
Spong N°1 Zassenhaus is one well known maker of the long cylindrical coffee grinders but there are many more. @ColinG
@ColinG First and foremost, thank you for the reply. I shall make note on "deep red", "claret" and "wine", as I'm in the deepest outback of Somerset, it should be no problem laying my paws on Rust-Oleum but I may opt for another brand of paint. @Alex song Of all the things I've collected in the past, I've never collected any broken crockery I'm now beginning to also collect lanterns in reminiscent of my childhood living in Sheung Yu (上窰) near Pak Tam Chung (北潭涌). The old house was like a fortress/castle with double doors entrance, it has now become a Folk Museum. If you ever go camping in Sai Kung Country Park, do visit this 上窰民俗文物館. My family was the last to leave the village and in one of the pictures with two little boys displayed in the museum , I am the elder of the two. We only ever had one paraffin pressure lantern, left to our family by the British Soldiers who were frequently there on Exercise/Training, time was hard during the 60's but as you can see......I have survived and hope to survive a bit longer.
@Wim although the grinder looks like a Shpong it's actually a different make called Beatrice and it's quite large! I was looking for a Shpong when I saw this advertised as a 'meat grinder'! I purchased it very cheaply and found out it is actually quite valuable, not that I care as we wanted to use it to grind our coffee!
And @K Wong ooooops...... I made a silly assumption! Sorry about that - I'm not sure how I missed theflag on your profile! And yes, even in Somerset you'll probably find Claret Wine paint somewhere although they might think it's a bit 'new-fangled'. My sister lives in Taunton and when she tells neighbours she's visiting friends and relatives in Surrey they think it's a huge undertaking.... 'Ooooh, you're going up that London! Don't think I'd wanna do to that!' one of them said to her once. It's a beautiful bit of the country though!
@ColinG Surrey, a most wonderful place to reside. I remember well my time in Windlesham and Surrey Heath is well suited for outdoor activities, in my experience only bested by Cornwall. Driving to Surrey is not so bad, taking the route through Bracknell to South-East, it when people enter within the M25 that's when travelling becomes a nightmare.
