Picked up a near mint Ashflash 1022 today and with little more that oiling the pump leather it came to life. My question now is what year was it produced, I've looked it over and the only inscription is a made in Hong Kong roll mark.
We can't date these lamp to year but they were probably not in production for much over 10 years as best and likely less. The company name was changed from H.J. Ashe Company Inc. to The Ash Flash Corporation in July 1969 and they were advertising gasoline lamps to 1975 so it is very likely to be from 1969 to the mid 1970s but possibly slightly later because the company were still advertising other products in 1980. Call it early to mid 1970s and you will be close enough. ::Neil::
Thank you for the information, It's a good working lamp but feels about a pound lighter than a Coleman of similar size.
I've also found AshFlash to be very good but they can be a bit 'lively' (lively as in . burning your eyebrows off!) when you start them. Ive recently added a pre-heater even though they're not kero.
With the Ashflash 1022 I've got, the trick is not to put much pressure in before lighting, and it will light cleanly. Too much pressure and You are wrestling with the control valve and needle crank trying to stabilise it. You have to turn it off and drop the pressure a bit. Obviously give it more pressure when stable. Good lamps.
