This has probably been asked before, but has anybody built a complete lamp using all individual parts from new or salvaged?
I ask because I have a nice brass Vapalux fount, and I would like to build on it, grabbing decent spares here and there.....
It would be an interesting project!

I haven't but what is stoppig you from doing so?
If you like to build a lantern, just do it.

I made a Tilley X246B from spare parts some years ago. Given it was done on the 1st January and the factory was shut, it was the newest Tilley lantern in existence for some days...

Nothings stopping me at all. I was just asking if anyone else had done it for some interesting custom builds they had done.

I once changed a body shell on a Jaguar XJ12, as an apprentice. It took nearly a month working 8 hours a day. There were thousands of parts involved.
I expect someone who could change a spare wheel on a car, could also assemble a Vapalux lamp from parts in under 30 minutes.
Admittedly, my comments are a little 'tongue in cheek' the biggest obstacle will be finding all the NOS parts.

Just look in the Frankie section. There are plenty of interesting custom builds there.

I've done it many times, particularly with Tilley 246 Guardsman lanterns. I was gifted a box of lantern parts (thank you @Jean J ) filled loads of useful bits and pieces, so I slowly worked my way through it, buying anything I needed until I was left with only the broken or unidentifiable parts. In the end I fabricated 6 or 7 lanterns and learned a great deal in the process.

I'm on my build project now. I have a nice brass 300X fount highly polished.I have a ventilator and hood on order because I couldn't salvage one anywhere.
The rest I have salvaged and have spent the last few weeks cleaning and polishing.
    Watch this space!

    Hi there @Johnny19
I built a Bialaddin 300? All out of sourced parts, some bits weren’t pretty, cleaned up, bit of panel beating, patients continuously looking for bits. In the end I had my first Bialaddin, happy hunting

@Darryl Durdin yes it's a Bialaddin 300X I'm building. I've got most of the parts ready. The frame and collar needed a lot of work but come up nice. The brass is not as shiny as the tank though.

Hi @Johnny19 , mine wasn’t that pretty either, but

    Progress!
It started with the polished brass tank I'd had for a while, wondering what to do with it.
Admittedly, I bought the Ventilator and hood because they're the ones I couldn't salvage anywhere.
The rest I salvaged and cleaned up, but I'm still waiting on the spirit bowl and wick.
I need to fit a mantle too, so I will post some shots in the Action Gallery when complete!

That's come together really well, will you be lighting it eventually, if you do the brass part of the hood will blacken.

Thanks Guys, pretty chuffed with this rebuild, and no two parts are from the same lamp. I like the black hood on it too!
@Mr cod, yes I will light it with a different spirit cup and vaporiser. I'll post the shots next couple of days!
