So I spotted this in a antique shop today. I have always admired this model so I was excited until I noticed the wire and plug. So I didn’t buy it but I’m wondering what is involved in converting this back.
@Doug L - I have never got my hands on one of these - but I believe that the fuel runs up inside the lyre in a seperate copper pipe. @Michel will have a better idea as he has restored similar. So that leaves the tank to repair - I think that this is rare enough to warrant the work.
It’s going to depend on what they’ve done to the burner inside the lamp; it will need a closer inspection. I’m a sucker, that would be in my hands right now. I would at least have to try to bring it back. Thank you, John
Everything is restorable, in theory. Like @John says: is there a burner? I can't see where the electric cord comes out in the head. So 120 US dollars plus an amount extra maybe for a complete or part of a burner head. Go back look what is done and try to get a lower price.
It would be absolutely great if you could find the spare parts needed and get that restored to what it should be. Best of luck with it...
Beautiful lamp, also as it is, in the end the lamp is there and also not functioning with gasoline is a great addition for any collection. Honestly for 120$ I would buy this, that’s the price of an ikea lamp to make an example. Then I am sure you will find the burner, probably some French members have spares. Nicola
Well Doug good find the holes in the fountain and the lyre are not really a problem You have to solder a small brass disc the wire (and the gasoline) goes up in the lyre to the burner so the problem is how and where this damn electrifier has brought out the wire You have a LOR burner, but if it has been drilled, it is probably unusable We need photos without the globe et even without the glass holder (the globe is not compliant, it must have a hole at the bottom)
@Doug L Handsome-looking lamp. I’d have done the same - recoiled at first meeting then recanted. John
Can you show where the wire enters the burner housing please? It looks like the threaded piece the wire is running through will unscrew out the bottom and may have protected the threads in the housing. Making a burner tube and mantle holder would not be that hard.
Are these dark spots shadows? The important parts of the burner are above the air holes in the side, where we can see the wires; so we need to see if the wire comes in above or below where the control knobs are.
Anyone looking to buy a globe for a Lilor or similar 3 inch lip. These fit Vintage Half Frosted Bulge Globe Lantern Lamp Humphrey? Coleman? | eBay I bought one
That is gorgeous. That’s a real common globe for older American lamps, wouldn’t hurt to stock up on them. I’m not sure about Lilor but my Unic uses thumb screws to hold the globe in. When you get your lamp running just be careful and leave it a bit loose; they swell a little when hot and can crack from the pressure.
That globe looks identical to the one that I had on a AGM P66. Maybe a different size; I don’t have it anymore to measure.
Hi and sorry for my English. You can find a fitting tulip glass ~every quarter year on the french ebay, with the special 78-80mm fixation/griffe/base. It just needs some patience. I also picked up a couple of spare glasses for mine. I wouldn't be to sad about the electrification. Because of the poor availability of spare parts, I wouldn't enjoy running it. Also I am a little suspicious about large amounts of pressurized white spirit in the household. But this hole is original, one less to close: regards
