I’m almost there with the Bialaddin re build but have now found that when the vaporiser and control cock is assembled the pricker does not protrude through the hole when the tap is turned. It will protrude when control cock is removed and the vaporiser with pricker wire is pressed down on the bench. How can I increase the length of wire or the amount of control cock lift and is it essential for the pricker to work correctly when the lamp is lit in other words do you guys use it often when the lamp is alight ?

Insert a disc of brass on top of the control cock pricker activating cam pad. Judge the thickness on the extent to which the pricker is ‘falling short’ of the jet orifice.

Yes, it’s essential to have a working jet pricker. Clean - filtered even - fuel isn’t an assurance that a speck of carbon (for instance) on the inside of the vapouriser won’t break free and clog the jet. Use of the pricker is regular, though not frequent unless there’s a lot of dirt in the works.

What may be the problem here is that the washer at the base of the vapouriser is too thick. That will reduce the effective length of the pricker wire.

What you could do to check is to temporarily re-assemble the vapouriser and jet cleaner without the washer in between and see if turning the knob cause the pricker to protrude from the jet. If it does, it's quite possible the vapouriser washer is too thick - especially if it's one you've made yourself or not from a W&B seals kit.

I've just checked the length of an unused pricker wire and it turned out to be 149mm (or perhaps very, very slightly less, given my eyes and varifocals).

Sorry about the out of focus images - best I could do hand-held...
