just got this for £30, the electric thingy works, loads of sparks, just have to get one of them white burning bags things, No95, i think, now, normal petrol, or paraffin, plus a bit of a clean up
That's good to hear - mine was £12 from a car-boot sale but the piezo-electric unit has never worked. They seem to be rather temperamental and quite expensive to replace. I think I just used a match in the end. Yes, No. 95 tubular mantle. Mine are the Instaclip type. The illustration of an automobile fuel pump on the filler cap may be a bit of a clue!
did see the petrol pump, hahahahaha, now is that 2 star or 4 star, , what is the best way to burn the mantles in, on one vid i watch, he just used a lighter to light it, so it burnt and got smaller
Best not to use actual unleaded petrol, it'll gum up the generator in no time! I use Holt's Brake Cleaner as it's a pure naptha based liquid hydrocarbon. Look on eBay or Amazon to find the best price. There's a thread here on CPL where people post the best price they've found but £12 - £15 for 5l is what you're looking for. I've heard of people using regular sock style mantles somehow. I wouldn't know how they did it as I haven't got a Northstar... yet! As soon as I get one it'll be converted to kero ASAP ha ha ha!
I use Aspen 4 fuel. It works out cheaper than Coleman fuel, and is very clean. Garden Centres sell it for mowers etc. Nice lamp!
Yes, I'd agree. It's far better to use something like panel wipe or this Holts brake cleaner we're hearing about. Aspen will be fine although I find it a bit expensive. You need a mortgage for Coleman fuel in this country - it's about as expensive as a cheap single malt (doesn't taste anywhere near as nice, though)...
well, took it to bits, was borred, had fun putting the pin back in, there was 2 springs in tube, it is self cleaning as well, going to convert to to paraffin/kerro, now, were do i get kerro from were i live, Surry, Runnymede, no one sells it,
cheers, been trying to get some for months, been using jet fuel in some of my cookers, they get a bit hot, , tryed my local b and q, they have never heard of it,
got some mentlets, got it going, first go, but, blow the mentlet up, hole in it, plus have to make sure the mantlet does not get in the way of the sparky thing, had to do some fine adjustments, is there a secret way of putting the mentlet on, as I had to take of the plastic clips then put on or am I missing a simple trick
