Just a quick light up and a cuppa with the newly completed Coleman 639. I have seen these lanterns being dismissed on the Coleman forums but I’m rather taken with it!

Some may dismiss them but hey, yours looks good and is running well, you can't get better than that.
Congratulations on getting her running and now, enjoy.
    Cheers

Why would some Coleman Folk take a dislike to this Lamp ? I have a couple with the painted tank and they a solid runner.

I don’t know, perhaps it’s just the wrong side of a classic/modern split for some people. I must admit by the 639C model, I am less interested due to the more modern detailing but I think the original really works. But it doesn’t really matter, it’s all personal preference.

That is a very good looking lantern. I have one that I gained by assembling the parts from
a couple of lanterns that came with other purchases.

It is a strong runner, very bright and has lit many an evening in the backyard, chewing the fat
and trying to get rid of an excess of home brewed beer.

Put along side one of my 237's and compared critically it does not measure up, that is the view
of many, my view is that it is the big brother of my first lantern I received new in 1973, a 339,
I still have it and it has burned a "million" hours and is still burning strong.

The light and comfort that it giives is the most important measure of any lantern, otherwise it
    is just an ornament.
May you enjoy many hours with that handsome lantern.

Perfect, mine will do much the same!

I do like the idea of cobbled together spares lanterns, it’s like a complete bonus that they even exist and as you say once they are lit and illuminating a garden party or camping trip they are as good as anything else!

I am a 639 fan too. Mine was a minimal fettle and fills a 500CP mantle quite happily. Lights easily and burns all night without missing a beat. If I had any criticism at all it would be that it is a bit noisy
