I bought this Kayen AP2 a couple of years ago. I did a search of this site at the time and, if I recall correctly, came to the conclusion that this had a number of characteristics of the Kopsen AP2s. Ive just got it running, including cleaning out the fount, a dunk test, new seals, and have run it with no issues for about 1.5 hours. I’m now hoping to challenge the forum members with a couple of questions. First, the pump looks like a kayen one, but in looking through the gallery I have not spotted one that looks (nickel?) plated like this one is. Would a brass Kayen originally have had a plated pump? Second, there are some vertical lines on the side of the fount that could be scratches from when the fount was made, but look somewhat like stress cracks. Would it be typical for a Kayen to have such marks from manufacture? And if they were stress cracks is it reasonable to think that the lamp could not run faultlessly for 1.5 hours? Cheers,
@kero-scene It’s a Kopsen Kayen. The plated pump is interesting. How does it compare to the pump on the Stormaster? As for the vertical lines, do they look like they could be from the tank being pressed rather than spun? See here. If it’s not leaking after running like that it should be fine. Cheers Tony
@Tony Press Thanks for commenting. I’ve closely compared the Stormaster pump with the one on the AP2 and they look exactly the same. I’m a little amazed by that. I’m now also wondering if I didnt in fact see a Stormaster in a shop in Victoria recently. I was in a big hurry and didn’t pay close attention to it because the base plate was badly dished. I might follow up with them.
Looks fantastic to me, even with the Tilley vapouriser, have you put her in the lamp reference gallery?
